The Limfjord Museum
Between the Limfjord and Frederik the VII’s Canal is the Limfjord Museum, where you from April to August and again in a period of October can get a wealth of experiences with the fjord in focus.
In the old Canal Master’s residence and in the Maritime Adventure Centre, you can find exciting exhibitions about the life in, around and on the fjord. As an example, you can experience the museum’s big touch pool, where it is possible to pat a flatfish or tickle a crab. In the canal by the museum you can board a range of original boats, and you can visit the Historical Boat Builder Building, where you can experience the restoration of old boats at close range.
Guided tours
In July and August, the Limfjord Museum offer guided sails on the museum’s tour boat called Grevinde Danner (Countess Danner). Here, the competent guides from the museum will tell the story of Frederik the VII’s Canal while you lean back and enjoy the nature around you. At the end of the canal, in Lendrup, there is a break where it is possible to get a closer look at the canal constables’ houses before sailing back to Løgstør. Do you wish you explore the canal independently, it is possible to borrow the museum’s rowing boat and row out on the canal by yourself. It is free of charge when the entrance has been paid.
Experiences for everyone
The summer offers a wealth of activities for children and adults. You can try out your catch-luck with a net, crab-rods and other fishing gear on your own, or you can take part when the net is brought in from the fjord. Also try to cook and taste your catch together with the communicator of the museum. Or you can plunge into dissection of fish, snorkel safari and play at the museum’s maritime playground. Not two days are alike at the Limfjord Museum.
Sailing Museum Objects
The Museum commands 11 historical sailing boats – dating from 1887 to 1951. The boats of the museum are located in Frederik the VII’s Canal in front of the museum and on special occasions it is possible to go sail the boats.
From the fjord to the table
In the Adventure Centre you can find the maritime restaurant Kanalfogedens Køkken, which serves the best from the fjord and focus on great ingredients from North Jutland. So a visit at the museum gives the possibility to combine culture and gastronomy.
